REFOREST

Members of the Santa High School Batch 1977 Alumni Association (SHS’77AA) Inc. recently instigated another socio-civic project last 15 July 2012. Dubbed as ReForest, the project initially aims to plant seventy-seven (77) seedlings to signify Batch ’77. The venue of the tree-planting activity is the vacant lot across the public cemetery along the national road at Barangay Magsaysay which was also the site of the organization’s clean-up drive held early this month. The tree-planting activity is the culmination of the clean and green project of the alumni association at the specified area.

Armed with planting implements, members of the association were eager to start the activity in the early morning of 15 July. Coconut and narra seedling were previously sourced out by Manding G. Toloentino, SHS’77AAI auditor and Barangay Captain of Magsaysay District from the local office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Permission to conduct the activity was secured from the property owner through her authorized property caretaker.

The day-long activity was punctuated with the usual banter. The members shared snacks and lunch prepared camping-style. The eagerness and the willingness to conduct the tree-planting activity resulted to the planting of more than two hundred (200+) seedlings. The association president and auditor made sure that water is available to water the seedlings daily. The service of a caretaker was secured to ensure the area’s upkeep.
